Here are the top five changes you need to be aware of that came about from this Google Panda update:
1) Relevancy matters. Now more than ever it is important that your site be relevant, on topic and filled with quality content. Just having a site with little content, keyword stuffed content or regurgitated content is not going to cut it. Your site needs to be relevant, up to date and unique. A big part of this is making sure that the content on your site matches the keywords you are targeting.
2) Social media matters. Social media covers a wide range of topics and sites, from Twitter, Digg, Facebook, even Google’s new +1. You must have a social media presence these days, and it seems likely that this is going to be an even more important aspect of search engine rankings as we move forward. Everything on the internet is becoming more and more connected through social media, search results are no different.
3) Article marketing is changing. No longer can you spam thousands of article directories with low quality articles and reap the rewards. Instead, it is important to utilize the best article directories and use high quality articles for this leg of your marketing. Don’t mistake this as me telling you article marketing is dead, it is not. But article marketing through the thousands of article sites that are made up of only duplicate and spun content is no longer highly effective. Choose a few high quality article directories (we love Ezine Articles BTW) and submit your quality articles to these directories.
4) Speed matters. Onsite factors are being given more weight than before. Links are still the key to ranking, but not at the expense of other onsite factors. Check out http://tools.pingdom.com/ for a great free speed test. Not only will it give you the total load time of your site, but it will break down how long each individual aspect of your site takes to load. Take notice of what is taking the longest to load and make adjustments. You want your site lean and mean for ultra fast load times.
5) Videos are a good thing. Adding video to your site or page is something you can do that will enrich your visitors’ experience. Google is trying to optimize their results for the end user. They want to return the best results that will give the searcher exactly what they are looking for. Having a site rich with unique content is a great start, but augmenting that rich content with a great video is going to add to a users experience.
There are many more factors to consider when thinking about this new update. In addition, it is good to be aware that this is not the last update. Far from it, Google is constantly tweaking and adding signals to their search algorithm. When it gets right down to it, the best advice for ensuring long term success in the search engines is to have a high quality site that delivers unique and valuable information. In conjunction with a quality link building and promotion campaign, you should enjoy the benefits bestowed on you by Google through higher search engine rankings. Good luck!
